LITTLE TOOT WILSON
The black mare LITTLE TOOT WILSON, better known as "TOOTS" was foaled on the property of the Staleys at Washtucna, Washington. She was sired by the grand old stallion THUNDERBIRD 431141 and out of the Staleys good producking mare MAY BEE WILSON 561679. As a yearling "Toots" was entered in the Washington State Open Horse show in Yakima, where she won her class. She was subsequently sold to Mr. Friedkind of Idaho where she began her broodmare career. "Toots" had two foals for Mr. Friedkind sired by Secret Venture.
"Toots" then moved to Elmo, Montana and became a member of Pearl Tompkins great band of broodmares. "Toots" had three foals sired by SHADOW'S BRANTLEY, the most notable of these that had influence on the breed in Alberta was SHADOW'S LYRICAL, Jack Champman's good broodmare that produced: PRAIRIE BREEZE,CHAPPIE'S TOPPER, DARKIE'S LAST CHANCE, and CHAPIE'S SHADOW KING, to name only a few.
In 1970 "Toots" then moved to the Sechelt Penninsula in B.C. under the ownership of Doreen Stanley-Clarke. "Toots" had four foals from BEAUTY'S SAGE KING for Doreen.
In 1977 "Toots" was purchased by McDonald Farms and moved for the last time. "Toots" had foals for us from BEAUTY'S SAGE KING, LADDIE'S MONTE RAY, and CANADIAN CROWN ROYAL. "Toots" left us in 1988 and we still miss her friendly nicker and her people loving nature. We have two of her daughters here on the farm and many grandkids.
In total "Toots" had 17 foals-14 of them were fillies and 3 stallions. One of the colts was left a stallion and stood at Fort Vermillion, Alberta.
"Toots" will always be missed but I just have to look at or listen to MONTERAY SNIP and "Toots" lives again. here is my favorite picture of "Toots" doing what she did best - raising an outstanding foal. The foal in the picture is SAGE KING'S GYPSY BAY.
